Who we are
yt-dlp Windows Helper is an unofficial, community-driven website that provides guides and direct links to the official yt-dlp GitHub releases. We are not affiliated with YouTube or the official yt-dlp developers.
What we collect (and what we don’t)
- No accounts, no forms: We do not offer user accounts and do not collect information via forms on this site.
- Analytics (Google Analytics 4): We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregated, non-identifying usage patterns (e.g., page views, downloads button clicks). GA4 may collect device and event data such as page URLs, referrers, approximate geolocation, and technical attributes. IP addresses are processed by Google for geolocation and then discarded by GA4 by default.
- Hosting logs (GitHub Pages): This site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may collect standard web server logs (e.g., IP address, user agent) for security and reliability. See GitHub’s Privacy Statement for details.
- LocalStorage: We store a simple flag (
cookieConsent) in your browser’s localStorage when you click “Accept” on the cookie banner.
Cookies & local storage
We use:
- Google Analytics cookies (e.g.,
_ga,_ga_<container-id>) to measure anonymous usage and improve the site. - LocalStorage:
cookieConsentto remember your cookie choice.
You can manage cookies via your browser settings, use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or clear localStorage for this site.
Why we process data (legal bases)
- Consent: Where required, we rely on your consent for analytics cookies. Our banner informs you about analytics usage.
- Legitimate interests: We use aggregated analytics to maintain and improve the site’s performance and content.
Data sharing & processors
- Google (Analytics): Processes analytics data on our behalf. Learn more at Google Privacy Policy.
- GitHub (Pages): Hosts this site and may collect service logs. See GitHub Privacy.
We do not sell your personal information.
Retention
- GA4 event data: Retained by Google Analytics for up to 14 months or the default property setting (often 2 months) depending on configuration.
- LocalStorage: The
cookieConsentflag persists until you clear site data in your browser. - Hosting logs: Retention controlled by GitHub; see their policy.
International transfers
Analytics and hosting providers may process data in multiple jurisdictions, including the United States. We rely on their publicly documented safeguards and policies.
Your privacy choices & rights
- Use the GA opt-out add-on to prevent analytics collection.
- Block or delete cookies and site data via your browser settings.
- Do Not Track (DNT): At this time, we do not respond to DNT signals.
