Privacy Policy

yt-dlp Windows Helper is an unofficial, community-driven website. We collect minimal data and are transparent about what we use and why.

Who we are

yt-dlp Windows Helper is an unofficial, community-driven website providing guides and direct links to the official yt-dlp GitHub releases. We are not affiliated with YouTube, Google, or the official yt-dlp developers.

What we collect (and what we don't)

  • No accounts, no forms: We do not offer user accounts and do not collect information via forms.
  • Analytics (Google Analytics 4): We use GA4 to understand aggregated, non-identifying usage patterns — page views, button clicks, downloads. GA4 may collect device and event data such as page URLs, referrers, approximate geolocation, and technical attributes. IP addresses are processed by Google for geolocation and then discarded by default.
  • Hosting logs (GitHub Pages): This site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may collect standard web server logs (IP address, user agent) for security. See GitHub's Privacy Statement.
  • LocalStorage: We store a cookieConsent flag in your browser's localStorage when you accept the cookie banner.

Cookies & local storage

  • Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_<id>) — anonymous usage measurement.
  • LocalStorage: cookieConsent — remembers your cookie choice.

You can manage cookies via your browser settings, use the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on, or clear site data in your browser.

Why we process data

  • Consent: Analytics cookies are used with your consent via our cookie banner.
  • Legitimate interests: Aggregated analytics help us maintain and improve the site's content and performance.

Data sharing & processors

We do not sell your personal information.

Retention

  • GA4 event data: Retained by Google for up to 14 months (default property setting).
  • LocalStorage: The cookieConsent flag persists until you clear site data.
  • Hosting logs: Controlled by GitHub — see their policy.

International transfers

Analytics and hosting providers may process data in multiple jurisdictions including the United States. We rely on their documented safeguards and policies.

Your rights & choices

  • Use the GA opt-out add-on to prevent analytics collection.
  • Block or delete cookies via your browser settings.
  • Do Not Track (DNT): we do not currently respond to DNT signals.
  • Depending on your jurisdiction (EU/EEA, California etc.) you may have rights to access, correct, or delete data. Contact us to make a request.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
